Hands off our Internet

To the ITU and all nations meeting at the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT) in Dubai:

As citizens of the world and Internet users, we call on you to reject any changes to current Internet regulations that would weaken or alter the free and open nature of the Internet, or give any government or body the ability to infringe on Internet users’ rights to free speech, free access to information or privacy. We also demand that any proposed changes to current international Internet regulations be publicly debated, and subject to citizen input and approval.

Hands off our Internet
Right now at a UN meeting in Dubai, Russia, China and Iran are pushing to dramatically expand their powers to censor and control the Internet -- we have only 6 days left until their meeting ends to stop them.

The meeting involves 2000 delegates from more than 100 countries who are trying to rewrite a formerly harmless global treaty into a centralised regulation of the Internet. Two of the “fathers of the Internet,” Vint Cerf and Tim Berners-Lee, have both issued alarming warnings that the conference could allow the world’s most authoritarian regimes to justify their censorship of speech or blockages of Internet access to their citizens.

Our massive petitions have stopped attacks like this before and can do it again. Sign the petition to beat back this latest round of Internet haters and forward this to everyone you know -- when we hit 1 million signers, we’ll deliver the message straight to the desert of Dubai, and shake up their cosy meeting.
