MPs to stop the media mafia?

Ask your MP to stand up to media bullies

Feel free to use the talking points below to write your message, or compose your own -- the more personalised our messages, the bigger our impact. Please remember to be polite.
  • I am writing to you as one of your constituents concerned about the concentration of media in the hands of just a few owners.
  • More than 70% of British citizens support limits on media ownership.
  • Lord Leveson's focus on a media regulator is vital, but a strong new watchdog will still not stop one media owner from becoming so powerful that they exercise unhealthy control over our information and our politics.
  • The public's view is clear, now I want to hear from you -- please write back quickly to tell me whether or not you support limits to media ownership?

More information

Remember your outrage when you first heard missing schoolgirl Millie Dowler’s phone was hacked? Well now that the inquiry into this misbehavior is about to wrap up, the same media barons responsible for this scandal are preparing to whitewash the final report and prevent real reform -- and they'll get away with it too unless we act now.

Phone hacking, incestuous links between politicians and the media, police corruption -- these were all made possible by the massive might of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. Now Murdoch is likely getting ready to ensure the results of the Leveson inquiry looking into his wrongdoing don't do a thing to damage his stranglehold on our politics and our access to information, including by lining up politicians like David Cameron to get his back. The only way to make sure that no one company and no one person has too much control over our media is for us to intervene. Politicians have to hear our voices as loudly as they are hearing media scaremongering or they won’t have the guts to stand up to the press barons and enact real reforms.

Only if MPs hear from masses of constituents will they stand up to their fear of news editors to act to tighten up our media ownership laws. Use the form on the right to send a message directly to your MP and share this page with everyone.
