Calling for a Senate Inquiry into the Bulahdelah Bypass 'Option E'

Since the demonstrably illegal decision to implement the ‘Option E’ Bypass route was made by the NSW RTA, every single federal and state government minister and official, and all mainstream media outlets, have refused to even LOOK at the astounding abuses and environmental/cultural destruction that has consequently taken place at this unique and very Sacred Mountain Precinct, despite 12 years of intensive lobbying and petitioning by a few stalwarts who have been putting forward very rational and factual arguments as to why ‘Option A’ should have been selected. As the road nears its August, 2013 (weather permitting) completion, this petition is a last ditch attempt to draw people’s attention to and gain some mainstream media oversight of this intolerable situation.
When eventually the story of this unprecedented tragedy is known to the world, as it inevitably will, people will be absolutely incredulous that such wilful cultural heritage destruction, both Aboriginal and Western, and serious abuse of the Traditional Owners and the townspeople of Bulahdelah, could ever have been perpetrated by Australian governments. There is a strong cohort of people seeking to have the road re-routed to ‘Option A’ – even when the road is completed, we will be calling for re-routing until this nightmare ends. The road is so inherently dangerous that we believe it is only a matter of time before catastrophe falls upon this stretch of road, either by an inevitable landslide or rock fall causing harm, or by an accident at an identified highly treacherous stretch of the highway. We can only hope that it is not a number of townspeople or road-workers presenting with cancer or silicosis caused by inhalation of the silica dust that eventually causes its re-routing.
