Thorbjoern Jagland, Chairman of the Nobel Prize Committee
On 12 October 2012 the Nobel Peace Prize Committee awarded a Nobel Peace Prize to the European Union, saying, “The union and its forerunners have for over six decades contributed to the advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe.”

In fact, the European Union came into existence on 1 November 1993, and in under nineteen years has transformed a peaceful area of Europe into an area of conflict within, and has supported wars abroad. This award has baffled many, as explained by activist Tariq Ali in Democracy Now (http://www.democracynow.org/2012/10/12/european_union_wins_nobel_peace_prize).

Since the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the European Community, not to its elite, the citizens of the EU have the right to decide whether or not they accept it. This petition to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee gives an opportunity for EU citizens to declare that they reject the award.
