No honorary doctorate for Christine Lagarde (IMF) at KU Leuven

On October 29, the KU Leuven will award Christine Lagarde, head of the IMF, a honorary doctorate for “her outstanding and internationally recognised leadership during times of financial crisis”. The KU Leuven praises "her strong leadership, her exceptional legal and macroeconomic vision, and her lucid analyses". Furthermore, she is "a shining example for our students of economics" (ttp://alturl.com/jrd2p).

This is an insult to and shows a complete lack of respect for the tens of millions of people who are thrown into misery by the IMF-led Troika. In Southern Europe, the continuous fire of austerity and privatization measures is causing a huge increase of unemployment, poverty, hunger, suicide, etc.

Instead of a socialist policy in the interest of the majority of the people, Lagarde chooses a criminal neoliberal offensive in order to serve the interests of the big shareholders, banks and speculators. A honorary degree to Lagarde is unaceptable.

Christine Lagarde, directeur van het IMF, krijgt op 29 oktober een eredoctoraat van de KU Leuven omwille van “haar uitzonderlijk en internationaal erkend leiderschap in tijden van financiële crisis”. De KU Leuven looft “haar krachtig leiderschap, haar scherpe visie en de heldere analyses” en Lagarde vervult een "voorbeeldfunctie voor haar economiestudenten” (http://nieuws.kuleuven.be/node/11240).

Dit is een belediging en getuigt van een totaal gebrek aan respect voor de miljoenen mensen die door de Trojka, waar het IMF deel van uitmaakt, in de miserie geworpen worden. In Zuid-Europa resulteert het onophoudelijke salvo van besparingen en privatiseringen in de pan uitswingende werkloosheid, armoede, honger, zelfmoorden e.d.

In plaats van een socialistisch beleid in het belang van de meerderheid van de bevolking kiest Lagarde voor een misdadig neoliberaal offensief ten gunste van grote aandeelhouders, banken en speculanten. Een eredoctoraat voor Lagarde is onaanvaardbaar.

Le 29 Octobre, la KU Leuven attribuera à Christine Lagarde, directrice générale du FMI, un titre de docteur honoris causa pour «son leadership exceptionnel et reconnu au niveau international en temps de crise financière». La KUL fait l'éloge de «son leadership fort, sa vision exceptionnelle juridique et macroéconomique, et ses analyses lucides". En outre, elle est considéré comme «un exemple à suivre pour nos étudiants en économie"

C'est une insulte et un manque total de respect pour les dizaines de millions de personnes qui sont jetés dans la misère par le FMI à la tête de la Troïka. En Europe du Sud, le feu continu d'austérité et les mesures de privatisation entraînent une forte augmentation du chômage, de la pauvreté, de la faim, des suicides, etc.

Au lieu d'une politique sociale et humaine, Lagarde choisit une offensive néolibérale criminelle dans le but de servir les intérêts des grands actionnaires, des banques et des spéculateurs. Ce titre de Docteur honorifique décerné à Lagarde est inacceptable.
