We, members of the UN Expanded Theme Group on HIV/AIDS in Brazil (GT/UNAIDS), in analyzing the increase of homophobic crimes and their impact on the HIV epidemic and the human rights of the LGBT population in Brazil and expressing our commitment to to strengthening of the state AIDS response demand: 1) President Dilma Rousseff to prioritize the promotion of measures aimed at ensuring respect for human rights and restraining growing levels of violence against LGBT people; 2) The National Congress to immediately approve Law Proposal N. 122/2006, criminalizing violence against LGBT people; 3) The Judiciary to systematic investigate and punish homophobic crimes; 4) The Executive to reaffirm its commitment with civil society organization in addressing the problem of violence against the LGBT population and to effectively create a societal environment free of discrimination.
